En route towards Industrie 4.0 - Ferpinta modernizes sheet metal cutter with Siemens solutions
Lisbon, Portugal. Ferpinta, a Portuguese metalworking company, selected Siemens to modernize and increase the efficiency of the sheet metal cutter on its factory in Vale de Cambra. The scope of this project included the refurbishment of automation equipment, traction systems, motors and electrical installations. With the global solution implemented by Siemens, Ferpinta will be able to achieve energy savings of around ten percent.
"The technology we implemented will increase Ferpinta's competitiveness. By investing in the modernization of its factory, Ferpinta has taken an important first step towards Industrie 4.0", said António Mira, Director for Industry at Siemens Portugal. Siemens' solutions, which included the supply of state-of-the-art technology in the field of distributed Sinamics S120 frequency converters and water-cooled Simotics M - 1PH8 motors, has made Ferpinta's sheet metal cutting system even more efficient. From now on it is also possible to monitor the sheet metal cutter using Simatic WinCC software. This innovative display system from Siemens provides high performance functions to monitor automated processes.
Two units at this plant of Ferpinta registered an increase in operational performance, as well as an increase in availability, while reducing downtime and maintenance costs. "This partnership between two highly reputed entities was aimed at achieving greater energy efficiency and keeping us at the forefront of technology," said Jorge Teixeira, Ferpinta's manager. "Increasing our competitiveness in this demanding global market reinforces our leadership in our industry sector."
Doing business worldwide
Ferpinta, a Portuguese company, which is part of the Ferpinta Group, was founded in 1962. The company manufactures circular and rectangular steel pipes for industry and construction branch as well as farm machinery, and also does business in the tourism sector. It operates in more than 50 countries and has 1,100 employees.
