Gantry robot on world tour - Trade fair exhibit with MindSphere connection to be presented globally following successful launch
Nuremberg/Hanover, Germany. Siemens and Güdel AG, an international provider of automation, manufacturing and handling solutions, have joined forces to develop a gantry robot. These robots are used to automate production processes using robotics. The exhibit was presented for the first time in February at the “Tire Expo 2018” trade fair in Hanover. Since then, the solution, which presents Siemens technology concepts for the tire logistics industry, has been on a world tour. An essential component of gantry robotics is connecting the unit to MindSphere, the open IoT platform.
The company Güdel, which is based in Langenthal, Switzerland, develops gantry robots based on Siemens technology as complete, customer-specific system solutions. By using these units, customers benefit from high system availability, low friction losses and reliable and efficient production processes. The exhibit, which was developed together with Siemens specially for the trade fair in Hanover, has, amongst other things, a scanning gate to identify tires as well as gantry robotics for handling tires; it also captures and analyzes the process data. This data, such as bearing vibrations, can be transmitted to MindSphere.
Optimum error detection and maintenance scheduling
Data analysis in the open cloud-based IoT (Internet of Things) platform allows items such as bearing damage on the gantry axes to be detected and localized; the connection between the unit and MindSphere simultaneously ensures predictive maintenance is put in place.
Güdel AG has used Siemens technology to develop a tire logistics gantry robot which is connected to MindSphere and which is now on a world tour after its launch at the trade fair in February.
